The 2012 theme of ‘Redefining the Landscape’, directly references the 2009 Competition theme ‘Redefining the Portrait’, which sought to reimagine the definition and role of portraiture in Bahamian art.
This year participating artist have a
similar opportunity to embrace the theme of ‘Redefining the Landscape’ as a literal challenge in terms of material and/or the role of landscape painting in Bahamian Art History.
As well as thinking of ‘the Landscape’ as a metaphor for discussion of our evolving political, cultural and economic landscapes. It is my hope that contemporary artists embrace the challenge and opportunity of this year’s theme and that it will prove to be a catalyst for efficacious work.
