The Small Art Auction House is designed to be a fun take on the traditional auction house and will be comprised of a live-auction of “postcard” sized artworks donated by over 50 Bahamian and international artists.

The “postcards” (approx. 5” x 7”) are in a collection of media including drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, textiles and sculpture. There is no theme. The only guideline provided to the artists was that the the postcard should reference their larger body of work.

All postcards will start bidding at US$50.00.

In addition to the live-auction, The Small Art Auction House will have a small silent auction of works by local artists as well as live music from The Bahamas Music Conservatory Ensemble and a raffle.

Several of the artists based at Popostudios are participating in the event and will have artwork available for bidding – John Cox, Heino Schmid, Katrina Cartwright, Margot Bethel, Phoebe Luk, Kachelle Knowles, Jan Elliott, June Collie and Steven Schmid… also, Khia Poitier and former Popop-based artist Anya Antonovych Metcalf.

Jon Murray

All funds raised from the event go towards cultural worker Jon Murray’s tuition this Fall to study Art History at Hunter College (CUNY).

The event takes place Friday, July 13 at 6:30pm at The Bahamas Historical Society. Tickets are $25 and include complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres.
