PJRP (Popop Junior Residency Prize) 2010

By in Previous Exhibitions on January 2, 2011

Congratulations to Bahamian artists Jeffrey Meris, Khia Poitier and Steffon Grant, three College of The Bahamas Fine Arts Major students who have been selected for the first annual Popopstudios for the Visual Arts Junior Residency Prize (“PJRP”). The selection criteria for this innovative program includes a consistent demonstration of curiosity, maturity, focus and outstanding talent in their respective areas of interest.

The PJRP, an intensive “artist in residence” program to encourage young Bahamian artists under age 25, is made possible through the generosity and support of the D’Aguilar Art Foundation. The D’Aguilar Art Foundation honors the legacy of the late Bahamian art patron Vincent D’Aguilar by promoting Bahamian art and Bahamian artists locally and abroad.

The PJRP provides the artists with an unparalleled artistic opportunity. Each has been provided with studio/working space at Popop Studios. Each receives a financial stipend to allow them to focus exclusively on their artwork for the duration of the summer. The artists will travel to New York City where they will visit major museums and galleries with airfare and accommodations supported by PJRP. The experience of seeing important historic and contemporary works of art in person will be the focus of this trip.
