In this class students will explore the fundamentals of art while experimenting with basic art forms. Assignments will be tailored to accommodate each student’s needs and level of skill with emphasis being put on group projects and installations. Interaction with working artists at Popop will be encouraged, with students utilizing some of the techniques and materials they have seen being used in their work. In progress critiques will be held during the semester, which will culminate in a final critique of all finished work. This event will be open to parents and/or guardians to attend.

About the Instructor:
Michael Edwards (born 1975, Nassau, The Bahamas) received a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2000, and a Master of Science in Art and Technology from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2006.

Edwards has been a visiting critic at Valand School of Fine Arts, The University of Gothenburg, studio assistant at Sam Gilliam Studio, Washington, D.C., as well as Adjunct Instructor at The College of The Bahamas.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions in North America, Europe and The Bahamas. Selected venues include Cinque Gallery, New York; The Boston Center for the Arts – Mills Gallery; Trollhättan Art Museum, Sweden; FYR arte contemporanea, Italy; Nassauischer Kunstverein, Germany and The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.
