Bahamians have a unique way of expressing themselves, with a colorful vocabulary replete with words, idioms and adages to suit every occasion.
In 2013, as The Bahamas commemorates its 40th anniversary of independence, Colina Insurance Limited’s annual calendar, “Celebrating 40 years of Independence and Expression”, will celebrate Bahamian colloquialisms as a key aspect of culture.
New Popopstudios artist and filmmaker, Tyler Johnston climbed onto the roof of the main Popop building and – assisted by Phillip – made some much needed repairs.
“Brigidy Bram”, a film on the artwork and life of Bahamian artist Kendal Hanna, took an Honourable Mention award in the Short Film Category at the 2012 Bahamas International Film Festival.
“Love & Responsibility” will provide a powerful reference of Bahamian art for teachers and students locally while encouraging critical engagement with Bahamian art in order to present it to a regional and global conversation about culture. Most of all, however, the book will help others fall deeply in love with Bahamian art and culture.
Representatives of the Bahamian Project pay a courtesy call on Dr. Daniel Johnson, Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture. The Bahamian Project was created to document the character and preserve the legacy of the people who make up the soul and spirit of The Bahamas.
