Bahamian artist Dede Brown took home the winning prize last week for her photographic rendering “Absolut Party”, at an exhibition featuring Absolute Vodka inspired art pieces.

Popopstudios artists were well represented at the D’Aguilar Art Foundation on Thursday during the Absolut Art Ambition exhibition which showcased the creativity of about a dozen local artists.

The first 13 years of Popopstudios will be outlined, hinging on pivotal moments of its development from special exhibitions, interesting international resident projects, community achievements and future projections.

New art classes are now open for registration at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts.

The second half of semester three which runs from October 22 to December 1 will see the introduction of new classes and the continuation of a favorite. Six-week adult classes at three hours each will be offered.

There is no wrong way to draw experimentally. These exercises, during the Art of Drawing class at Popopstudios, focus on the process of drawing not necessarily on the finished works of art.

With a $7,000 cash prize and the chance to hold a solo show in the Central Bank Art Gallery, the stakes were certainly high yet the judges Amanda Coulson, Pam Burnside and Lawrence Bascom unanimously awarded the honor to Jace McKinney, whose piece “Where is He going? Where has He been?” effectively addressed a wide range of social, geographical, cultural and historical issues regarding the shifting Bahamian landscape.

John Cox is working with the children from the kids club at the Diabetes Research Institute and ACE Diabetes to create a mural called ‘I Can’ which will be installed in downtown Nassau for Diabetes Month November 2012.
