Former Art and Artist Community – Nassau Bahamas
June Collie and Richardo Barrett—both College of The Bahamas students—present the culmination of their artistic studies undertaken during the summer in their show “Fallen Transitions”, which opened Thursday October 20 at Popopstudios.
Consisting of both video and painting installations, the work holds a meaningful exchange about film and individuality.

Junior resident artist Richardo Barrett prepares the walls at Popopstudios for the upcoming show “Fallen Transitions”.
This project, initiated by the Waterloo Center for the Arts (WCA) in cooperation with filmmaker Karen Arthur and The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, seeks to raise the profile of Bahamian art.
The “Master Artists of The Bahamas” Exhibit will run from October 14, 2011 through January 2012 at the WCA in Iowa.

Ceramicist Katrina Cartwright is utilizing her skills to create a tile mosaic on one of the walls in the newly refurbished kitchen at Popopstudios.
Artists are making a new push to achieve the 750 signature goal on a petition launched last year calling for the removal of the 45 per cent duty on art supplies and equipment. Currently 486 signatures have been secured.
Barrett will be showcasing new paintings and illustrations in a two-man exhibition entitled “Fallen Transitions” at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts in Chippingham on Thursday, October 20, 2011 along with fellow Junior Artist-in-Residence June Collie.
Of this experience, Barrett states, “One of the things I valued was the fact that there was a community of artists and a dialogue that happened amongst us being there.”
History is being made as the largest collection of Bahamian visual artists’ work to be displayed in the United States opens next week in Waterloo, Iowa. “Master Artists of The Bahamas”, an exhibition featuring over 40 pieces of artwork by eleven Bahamian artists, will coincide with a symposium, film series and educational public art installation project at The Waterloo Center for the Arts.
Dede Brown has completed her residency in England, where she participated in an Artist’s Exchange Programme with the Ipswich & Colchester Museums and A Fine Line, for the ‘Stories of the World’ Programme set up for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
In her artist’s statement she says: “The theme I have chosen to explore in my Material Response Project is Identity; personal and national identity through the mediums of painting and costume. This is a topic that has intrigued me for years and I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to explore it through my artwork.”
