Popop Junior Residents In New York
Popop founder John Cox and curator Heino Schmid are in New York with the 2011 junior resident artists on an art-intensive 10-day trip which promises to be a fun-filled, educational experience. The group returns on July 28, 2011.

Margot Bethel’s Departure series of paintings on wood, with their amber color, glossy finish, and layers upon layers of symbols and patterns, similarly bring together, hold in visual suspension, what the artist describes as ‘time on a two dimensional plane.’
Master Artists of The Bahamas
The Waterloo Center for the Arts will be hosting an exhibition and symposium featuring the Master Artists of the Bahamas this Fall.
Featured in this exhibition and symposium are Popopstudios artists Kendal Hanna, and John Cox along with other Bahamian icons such as Amos Ferguson, Max Taylor, Brent Malone, Dave Smith, Eddie Minnis, Stan Burnside, Jackson Burnside, Antonius Roberts and John Beadle.

Bettina’s Film Screening and Writing Workshop
In collaboration with The Hub, Bettina will be screening the stop motion film that she has been working on during her residency exchange at Popopstudios, and she invites Bahamian writers to participate by writing a short story (in any format) which could accompany the film.

Popop Welcomes Quilters
Popopstudios welcomes Jan Elliot and Sarah McClean for a short-term residency as they work towards the completion of a textile-art/quilting project inspired by a conversation with the recently deceased Jackson Burnside.
Junior Residents Head To NYC
The three art students who received the Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Artists Junior Residency Prize – June Collie, Keva Fawkes and Alistair Stevenson, along with Richardo Barrett, winner of the Antonius Roberts Award, and the summer interns – all art and art education majors at the College of the Bahamas, have been busy learning and developing their artistic skills this summer. One of the particularly anticipated highlights of the residency program is a trip to New York to visit art galleries.
Kendal Hanna’s Retrospective Opens
The Retrospective Exhibition “Kendal Hanna – Happy Birthday to Me” officially opened on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas on West Hill Street and will be on display until the end of 2011.
To Hanna, the experience is somewhat surreal, but brings him great joy, for being underappreciated for so long led him to believe his work would never be presented in this way, let alone that his story, forgotten even by his own troubled mind, would never be told.
