At the Central Bank’s Invitational, opening this coming Thursday night, 10 artists offer insight into the landscape of Bahamian contemporary art. These artists – Antonius Roberts, Malcolm Rae, Kendal Hanna, Michael Edwards, Dylan Rapillard, Margot Bethel, Toby Lunn, Giovanna Swaby, Kachelle Knowles and Steven Schmid – range in age from 20 to 76, offering a wide-cross section of perspectives in a small sampling of current studio practices in the nation’s capital.

Popopstudios’ Summer Camp For Kids began on Monday, July 9. During the camp the children will be exposed to various disciplines and participate in both group and individual activities.

The 2012 Invitational at The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery is an investigation and celebration of the art currently being produced in The Bahamas. There is no theme or descriptive title to the exhibition with the only premise for the show being that the invited artists submit work that directly dealt with their own individual studio concerns.

Margot Bethel and her lovely assistant Kachelle Knowles have been lending a handyman’s hand to Sonia Farmer at the Poinciana Paper Press.

During the 2nd to the 4th of July 2012, I participated in the Third Annual Schooner Bay Sculpture Symposium with other Popopstudios Junior Resident artists. I found this trip to be most insightful and definitely an experience to cherish.

Four Phd students from Geo Mason University and the four art residency students from Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts are participating in the 3rd annual eco-symposium in Schooner Bay.

The Small Art Auction House is designed to be a fun take on the traditional auction house and will be comprised of a live-auction of “postcard” sized artworks donated by over 50 Bahamian and international artists, including several Popop-based artists.
