PTAP Announces ‘Nurturing Brotherhood’ Artists
The Public Treasury Art Program (PTAP) announces the names of the seventeen Bahamian male artists who have mentored high school students over the past few weeks in preparation for its five month exhibition, Nurturing Brotherhood. PTAP invites the general public to the opening reception on May 18th where each artist will showcase their work alongside their student.

Too often, art classes act in an “academic vacuum” said College of The Bahamas art instructor, John Cox. To give his advanced students experience in the local art world and to “breathe life into the art program” he helps them plan and execute site-specific art pieces.
Artist Amy Collins set about the task of folding the 1,000 cranes out of paper for her project after her experience with Origami for another assignment.
Margot Bethel Speaks On Creating Artist-Run Spaces
ART Nucleus, a Grand Bahama community arts group, will host an “ARTiculate TALKS” presentation by Margot Bethel, founder of The Hub, a community-based art centre in Nassau, on Monday, 30th April 2012 at 8 pm at L’Utopia on East Sunrise Highway in Grand Bahama.
Open Call for Submissions to New Media 2012
This is an open call from the Trinidad+Tobago film festival and ARC Magazine for all artists working in video art and experimental film to submit works to be included in the second annual New Media programme, supported by the Ministry of Arts & Multiculturalism of Trinidad & Tobago. Artists from the Caribbean and its diaspora, or artists who address these spaces in their work, are eligible to apply. Submission deadline is May 15th.
Art On The Radio
Thanks to a collaboration between the National Art Galley of The Bahamas and The Guardian Radio Station 96.9 FM, visual art and culture will reach more ears locally and regionally.
Hosted by John Cox, the chief curator at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, “The NAGB: Blank Canvas” runs every Wednesday evening between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Guardian Radio 96.9 FM.
Public Treasury Art Program is Nurturing Brotherhood
After its well received five-month inaugural exhibition ‘Bahama Mama’, an amalgamation of visual and literary works from twenty-five talented Bahamian female artists and writers, PTAP will be returning this May with an exciting new exhibition, ‘Nurturing Brotherhood’. PTAP aims to build upon its reputation for empowering aspiring artists by allowing art students to take center stage of the creative arts industry.
Future Of Art
Four emerging artists at The College of The Bahamas are preparing to embark on what may become pivotal moments in their lives – a summer-long residency at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts.
Veronica Dorsett, Yutavia George, and Steven Schmid are the latest recipients of the Popop Junior Residency Prizes sponsored by Popopstudios ICVA and The D’Aguilar Art Foundation. Also, Christina Darville has been selected for the 2012 Antonius Roberts Award which will be enabled through Popopstudios.
Institutions By Artists
Fillip and PAARC are pleased to present Institutions by Artists, an international conference that aims to evaluate the performance and promise of contemporary artist-run centres and initiatives. The three day event will include over 50 speakers from 19 countries.
