Four emerging artists at The College of The Bahamas are preparing to embark on what may become pivotal moments in their lives – a summer-long residency at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts.

Veronica Dorsett, Yutavia George, and Steven Schmid are the latest recipients of the Popop Junior Residency Prizes sponsored by Popopstudios ICVA and The D’Aguilar Art Foundation. Also, Christina Darville has been selected for the 2012 Antonius Roberts Award which will be enabled through Popopstudios.

Fillip and PAARC are pleased to present Institutions by Artists, an international conference that aims to evaluate the performance and promise of contemporary artist-run centres and initiatives. The three day event will include over 50 speakers from 19 countries.

Saskia D’Aguilar’s love of art has brought her to where she is today. She is the director of the D’Aguilar Art Foundation (DAF), responsible for the art collection of her late father-in-law Vincent D’Aguilar — one of the largest and most important collections of art in the country.

Every Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is a relaxing and welcoming Neighborhood Coffee Morning at the Antonius Roberts Studio and Gallery at Hillside House on Cumberland street. Twice a month they feature artists working in different disciplines leading demonstrations.

Artist Kishan Munroe considers himself a “global citizen,” a label which has manifested itself in his art. It is this global approach that Munroe takes that makes his work so moving and relatable. His goal as an artist is to transcend the boundaries of language and culture in order to create artwork that can be read and understood through purely visual means.

The students of Art 360: An exhibition of selected works created this past semester. At the beginning of the year Art 360 students were given three challenges. Posters for the eight years of The Bahamas International Film Festival have been as varied as the artists behind them, yet always offered a breathtaking spin on their slogan “Cinema in Paradise.” Now The Bahamas International Film Festival is opening up their poster design in a competition for artists living and practicing in The Bahamas.
